Our Third Year Apprentice Shares his Experience
I am going into my third year as an electrical apprentice for Croxford Electrical. I have been training here since I left school. Being a part of the Croxford’s team has taught me a lot about my trade, but also a lot about myself as a person.

Gaining Practical Apprentice Electrician Skills
My apprenticeship started with me assisting the senior electricians in any way possible. This included things like sweeping up and loading the vans. I then started installing lighting and sockets, as directed by the seniors. I’ve worked in varied locations like houses, offices, schools, leisure centres and factories. I am now able to complete small jobs on my own, with a senior electrician checking over my works. I have been able to do this because of my willingness to learn and the great people around me at Croxford’s. They are always helping me improve and are constantly pushing me to do my best, in all scenarios.
Learning Electrician Theory
During term-time, I work four days a week, Monday-to-Thursday. On Fridays, I have my college day at Northampton College, as this suits me best. Croxford Electrical also have apprentices at Warwickshire College and JTL in Birmingham. College teaches me the theory behind being an electrician, I then put my learning into practice onsite.
Life-long Learning as an Electrician
I believe becoming an electrical apprentice is a great way to start your adult career. You gain niche qualifications and are exposed to lots of experiences. Having this training will open many doors for me. It is the start of what I hope will be a long and successful career. After completing my apprenticeship, there is a structured career path. My first step will be to fully qualify as an electrician. After that, I will be able to progress to approved electrician, on to technician, followed by qualifying supervisor. I know Croxford’s will support me every step of the way.
